TRAVEL JOURNAL 6: Maine – The Ocean

The next part we spent by the shore. The Maine beaches are so bright and beautiful! And the day was so warm that the water was actually warmer than in Florida as the tide was rising over the hot beach stones.

It’s so beautiful! The colors, the textures! The gravely sand and pebbles and shells! I can see why so many artists migrate to Maine.

Rose and Clo and I came up with an idea for a “Sea Spa” where you first get a sand-scrub (actually feels really good), and then are rinsed off with sea weed. You then get a facial with this special seaweed jelly (it actually made our skin feel wonderful, but we weren’t sure if it would be great or give us some awful rash at the time. It was an experiment!), and then a hair rinse in ocean water, and seaweed hair extensions!

Can you tell we had tons of fun?

They took us out in their boat to a little island, where we got a fire going and boiled potatoes and then steamed lobster on seaweed and ate it for dinner.

There was sea lavender there, or samphire, which is edible and has a pleasant, salty taste.

The teenagers tried to disappear again, so Clo and little Ania and I went after them – Clo running along and me giving Ania a piggy back ride (we called it a horsey ride) trying to race her (and Ania’s little voice in my ear saying, “um, uh, can you go faster?).

We caught up to them in the end!
