First Night

I have been working so, so hard….I am just on the cusp of moving my animals over. Kasey, my helper, has been working hard, too, pictured here welding a special attachment to a gate so I can keep the poultry locked up (I am sooooo over the free- range poultry. It’s like living with a horde of terrorists/gutter punks).

It’s been tempting me for such a long time, this place. After I finish my work at the old place, I go out every day to work and work here. It’s so beautiful, and I feel so happy and refreshed. I’ve been waiting and wondering for this day – like wondering when you will first get to spend the night with a lover – when I could stay and not have to drive the long drive late at night back to Alachua across town.

It finally happened – i am borrowing a camper from a friend. Last night I spent the first night. I felt like I was going on vacation!

I picked vegetables from my little garden and made a beautiful soup. I had a fun book to read, and I went to sleep early, missing the cats.

And then waking up, suddenly, golden sun in my eyes, to the beauty and fresh start here…. I feel like I am walking a blessed path. How often in life do we get to shed everything, all the old skins, and start over truly fresh?

Congratulations & best wishes! I still vividly remember my first night spent at our new farm 14 years ago… staring up at the stars enjoying the quiet of the night except for the singing cicadas & an occasional owl hooting……waking up to the many birds singing in early summer and having a coffee on the porch overlooking our acres of promise in the cool of the morning anxious to get my hands into the soil and begin planting…
